WHO WE ARE
Union of Justice is a European, independent, people of colour (POC) led organisation dedicated to racial justice and climate justice. Indeed, we maintain that there is a clear and crucial connection between both: we cannot talk about the climate crisis without recognising that it is also an inequality and race issue.
The fight for climate justice is the fight of our lives, and we need to wage it right and on all fronts. However, the effects of the climate crisis are unequal and unfair. This crisis was created by the privileged few, but is hitting ethnic minorities and marginalised communities the hardest. Without a radical and rapid change of course, this unjust trend threatens to add itself to the profound historic injustices POC across Europe and the globe already confront.
Union of Justice aims to defend, protect, and extend human rights and basic entitlements in the fight for racial equality across Europe while bringing about a just climate transition. Our proximal goals are, therefore, to ensure that centralised projects and decisions regarding European climate action do not worsen injustice and that POC voices and concerns are heard and embraced. A just climate transition demands that we ensure that any and all remedial action against climate change is just, inclusive, and diverse in outlook.
Our Three Pillars
EMPOWER.
For Union of Justice to achieve its mission, creating and building a vibrant network of European activists, campaigners, researchers, artists, groups and changemakers who are people of colour is imperative. This network will facilitate training, mentoring, and providing capacity building support so those most affected are equipped with the skills and knowledge to bring about change in their communities. Union of Justice will also guide beneficiaries through their projects from conception to completion, amplify their ideas and campaigns, as well as celebrate their achievements and wins.
INFLUENCE.
Union of Justice is not a neutral organisation. The fight for racial and climate justice is one that is incompatible with “fence-sitting”. Therefore, Union of Justice will advocate for positions and policies that in any way contribute towards racial equality and climate justice. It is a matter of demanding a future and a system that works for all. As well as responding to events, government consultations, papers, policy proposals and requests from everyday people . Union of Justice will provide briefings, data-analysis, surveys, advocacy - by building connections with key decision-makers as well as mobilising activists and supporters - while partnering with local and multinational sister-organisations, promoting key research, and creating reports relevant to our priorities.
CHANGE.
Campaigning for radical change is at the heart of what Union of Justice does. It's the source of engagement with the public and the gel connecting each of our operations. From local campaigns within specific regions and nations to campaigns aiming to shift policy within pan-European institutions such as the EU. Union of Justice will ensure POC have a seat at the table and is driving the conversation. Whether it is a focus on rebutting eco-fascist narratives, pushing for more POC representation or pushing through a globally-aware, just and inclusive European Green Deal. We recognise the whole of society has a part to play, so Union of Justice will also work to advise NGO’s, private companies as well as political institutes.
