We are living in a time of
multiple overlapping crises…
from climate breakdown
and biodiversity loss, to
conflict and cost of living.
WANT TO MAKE A CHANGE?
Racialised communities
are on the frontlines—
bearing the brunt of climate change, pollution, and resource exploitation.
As leaders in the environmental sector, it is our responsibility to ensure that our efforts to protect the planet also address these profound social inequalities.
It is now more important than ever that all European climate, green and environmental organisations lead with an intersectional, racial equity lens.
We invite you to take a pivotal step towards a just and regenerative future by signing the CHANGE Charter. This five-part pledge outlines a shared commitment to integrating racial justice into our environmental advocacy and operation.
By signing this charter, you will join a growing network of European environmental organisations committed to addressing the intertwined challenges of racial and environmental justice.
Together, we can mobilise systemic change towards a more just, equitable, and regenerative future for all.

-
We will actively recruit and increase racial diversity across our staff and board and ensure that equity is at the centre of our hiring process for prospective staff members.
-
We will proactively strive to embed equitable, inclusive decision-making and power-sharing within:
Our internal policies, systems and culture;
Our external relationships, coalition partners, communications and resource allocation.
-
We will commit to building deep, accountable relationships with communities of colour, marginalised groups, and equity partners. When developing policies and campaigns, we will engage with communities of colour at the beginning to listen to their perspectives and understand their needs. We will recognise the importance of being accountable to these communities and will ask for their feedback
-
We will commit to answering and evaluating the following question:
How do our programmes/ policies/ actions impact and benefit communities of colour, marginalised groups, and those on the frontline of the climate crisis?
We will recognise that our work has not always included a deeply diverse grassroots base so we will rely on our community-based partners to help answer this question, as well as to provide input on proposed solutions to address the climate crisis and environmental justice.
-
We will strive to reach out to other historically white-led organisations to share our experiences and commitments, encouraging them to commit to leading with a racial equity lens.

WE ARE HERE TO SUPPORT
YOU ALONG THE WAY.
Network Meetings
All organisations who sign the CHANGE Charter will become members of the CHANGE Network. These sessions will be held quarterly, and operate as structured opportunities for peer knowledge exchange and action learning towards taking intersectional climate action.
Learning & Resource Hub
You will gain access to a continually developing bank of resources and information to support you with creating and implementing your CHANGE Action Plan. It is a multimedia set of resources— from podcasts and news articles, to upcoming events across Europe.
Progress Sharing
Once a year, network members are invited to share the progress that they’ve made on their CHANGE action plan. This is an opportunity for us to practice transparency, celebrate successes, and demonstrate the continued commitment to embodying racial justice.
